The Banyan Tree - a real grower
OCC meet 25/08/17 Banyan Tree, Peterborough City Centre - The OCC was welcomed by Dinesh and the team at the bar before being seated at our table. The team had already laid out a table with poppadom’s and sauces as requested when making the reservation. Once seated and had enough time to take in the surroundings out comes 4 mixed grill starters in a timely manner, again pre ordered with the reservation. The starters contained a mixed selection of meats including chicken, lamb and fish, which was delicious and plentiful for the group. However, I was slightly disappointed with the lack of prawns as advertised on the website. Then came the time the OCC looks forward to the most, the curry. Our order was taken, 10 strong table, without one mistake when the food came out. Each curry was accompanied by rice, naan bread and a selection of side dishes for the table. Overall the mains got a mix bag of reviews, reflected in the scores, with the biggest criticism being that certain spicy curries lacked spice, that said the curries were certainly flavoursome with some making particular reference to the quality and flavours of various dishes. One dish which can be recommended from a certain member is the Bhuna Ghost. Throughout the whole experience Dinesh and his team made us feel more than welcomed and their effort didn’t go unnoticed to ensure we enjoyed our evening. With a calm (not so busy) atmosphere we were able to fully make the most of our a meet, potentially due to the local beerfest in town. Cost £27 per head, 10 members totals Score: Customer Care 7.53 Service 7.88 Value 6.93 Quality 6.33 Atmosphere 5.65 Overall 6.86 To summarise – Worth a visit if in the local area with an alternative selection of curries than the traditional English one, with some hidden gems in a modern restaurant within an historic building.
