One to leaf out in your quest for curry perfection

Apollo Banana Leaf or should I say Apile sh!t leaf

22nd March 2019 The OCC travelled to the deep south of London, Tooting to the Apollo Banana Leaf, a Southern Indian & Sri Lankan restaurant on the buzzing Tooting High Street.  What started as a pleasant evening turned into utter chaos as we entered into the establishment which was heard described as ‘canteen like venue’.

As the OCC were seated you couldn’t help but take in the BOOMING atmosphere with every seat in the house taken, it was safe to say the restaurant was full. This soon became tiresome with the noise level continually rising to the extent it interfered with the meet, which divided members.  Safe to say this isn’t the place for a romantic date, backed up by the couple next to us asking to leave.

While the menu catered for some traditional Indian dishes, the Sri Lankan side was dominant and members were quick to notice the lack of naan breads. Food was ordered and after a long wait, eventually came out.  Unfortunately the standard failed to meet OCC expectations on every level. Poppadoms lacked sauce; starter’s referred to as the worst in history and a couple of mains barely touched.

Value 3.33

Quality 2.75

Overall, a few decent pubs near the venue, booming atmosphere and clearly popular - but for the curry lovers a no-go. Officially the lowest OCC score to date and we will not be returning.
